Many people experience depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and stress when dealing with difficult or challenging life circumstances. Yet difficult transitions are also opportunities for personal growth and enlightenment.

If you are considering psychotherapy and you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, please call my confidential voicemail and leave a message: (650) 200-3602. We can schedule an initial half hour intake over the phone to see if we are a good fit and move forward from there. I work with individuals and adolescents.

Areas of focus in my practice include:

Personal Growth & Healing

Transition Support for Teens & Adults

Trichotillomania & Excoriation

Trichotillomania (chronic hair pulling) and skin picking disorder are often misunderstood behaviors, and can be linked to feeling isolated, alone, misunderstood, and ashamed. These body focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) affect many children, adolescents, and adults. My approach with clients dealing with BFRBs includes mindfulness practices, cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, and narrative therapy.

Powerful Results

“I sought out Dorothy because I struggled with trichotillomania (hair pulling). The behavior started when I was ten years old and in my twenties I built up enough courage to realize I couldn’t manage it alone. I came to Dorothy very fragile and vulnerable and I was received with compassion and genuine hopefulness and consideration. Together we tried different exercises that I still continue to use and many of the things we discussed are imprinted in my memory as helpful resources and reminders of my inner strength. Dorothy has an intuitive sense that helped guide me to come to my own conclusions and perceptions of my experience, which significantly alleviated the shame and lack of self control I was experiencing. Her attunement to my needs surpassed my expectations. It was through this relationship that I felt a restored belief in myself and in therapy. I believe that if you are seeking out a therapist you will find Dorothy to meet you with where you are at and skillfully bring you to where you would like to be.”
